California is bolstering its clean energy capabilities with the approval of a $30 million grant for a pioneering long-duration energy storage project. Backed by the California Energy Commission, Form Energy will construct a 5 MW / 500 MWh iron-air battery system that claims a ground-breaking 100-hour continuous discharge lifespan. Residing in Mendocino County and tied to the grid via a Pacific Gas and Electric Company substation, this project is lined up to enhance grid reliability and facilitate the state’s ambitious climate objectives, with operational commencement targeted for the end of 2025.
